WSB-TV Atlanta is reporting that AirPods and other wireless ear buds which use Bluetooth technology may in fact be quite harmful to the consumer, possibly causing cancer.

Apparently scientists have recently signed a UN and World Health Organization petition warning of the possible dangers inherent with Apple AirPods.

The belief is that the Bluetooth technology which the earbuds use are a cancer risk due to the type of electromagnetic freqency (EMF) radiowave that can transmit data. When these devices are placed in the ear they can directly affect the inner skull.

Experts are calling for protection against the technology.

According to the petition,  “Based upon peer-reviewed, published research, we have serious concerns regarding the ubiquitous and increasing exposure to EMF generated by electric and wireless devices,” the petition reads. “Numerous recent scientific publications have shown that EMF affects living organisms at levels well below most international and national guidelines.”

It has also been brought up that EMF may be "possibly carcinogenic" for humans.

When the Apple devices first launched in 2016 Apple spokesperson Alex Kirschner said, "Apple products are always designed and tested to meet or exceed all safety requirements."

The company hasn't responded to the latest cautionary claims.
