Is Central Florida Getting The World's Largest Drive-In Theater?

The proposed "Lighthouse 5" would take over Eustis, Florida

June 3, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has lead to a resurgence in the popularity of Drive-In movie theaters, since conventional theaters have all been shuttered for months. You get to sit in your car. You don't get anywhere near other people. You still get to see a movie. It's got everything!

Drive-in theaters have been thriving, with one located in Ocala even being responsible for the entire country's box office income for one week. Drive-in concerts have been happening in Europe, being tested by one of the largest concert promoters in the world, and there's some you can catch happening right now

Central Florida might be putting another giant notch in it's Drive-In bragging belt, as a sleepy, little lakeside town just north of Orlando is developing plans to build the World's Largest.

Eustis, Florida is located about 45 minutes Northwest of Orlando. It's got a population of just 21,303 (thanks, Wikipedia!) and a beautiful lake.

A native of the town, who is now a Hollywood-based filmmaker, has proposed building Lighthouse 5: a massive 5-screen drive-in theater with concessions and other entertainment spread across a 71 acres, and a lighthouse right in the middle - hence the name.

The facility might also feature RV Parking and campingDid somebody say Drive-In festival?

Incredible photos of what the proposed site might look like can be found on the theater's Official Facebook Page.  As of May 26, 2020, they say they're still a year or two away from actually opening.
