It's something we never hope to see again - except in this case, when I absolutely hope to see it.

On Saturday morning, with a launch scheduled for 8am (and a window that extends to 12 noon), SpaceX will intentionally blow up one of their rockets after launch. But it's not just for "fun", it does have a purpose. They will be testing SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule to make sure that astronauts would be safe in the event of an emergency or catastrophic event.

Now, it may not actually blow up. But more likely, they'll just simulate an escape pod separation, and the rocket will do that thing where it disagrees with the atmosphere and burns up. But still - a rocket launch is always a unique site to see in the sky. This one is even more unusual.

It should go without saying, that this mission will be UNMANNED.
