Wait, Who Is Eating Oreos With Mustard?

The clue popped up in a recent USA Today crossword puzzle.

February 14, 2020

I've got a lot of questions.

Now I haven't thought about crossword puzzles in years, because I'm a dumb baby with a stupid mush brain, and I can never finish more than half of a moderately difficult one - let alone New York Times, or even USA Today. I could usually get like 3 or 4 of those clues and that's it.

So when I started seeing random posts pop up in my timeline about the Wednesday, February 12th puzzle, I was curious. It turns out there was a clue involved that left at least one person with a bad taste in their mouth, and many others including myself with qustions. Namely, Who eats OREOs with mustard?

That was a real clue, you can check for yourself

10 Down: Cookie that some people eat with mustard

Answer: OREO

So is this a legitimate thing? Or is this the crossword puzzle-maker letting some of their very odd private life out into the world for all of us to see? I googled, and the first thing that comes up is this janky blog. So they might just be running out of clues.

Or maybe Mustard Oreos are the next big combination that we're all missing out on, but I'm not gonna be the one to try.
